The videos that NBNCo recently released seem to go a long way in
communicating the immediate and future benefits of the NBN.
http://www.nbn.gov.au/media-centre/videos/ The "At Home with the
NBN" one was shown prior to the meeting, everyone was attentive.

My feeling, judging from the Q&A at the end, is that people are a bit
skeptical about the promise of fixing Gungahlin broadband. And
rightly so, as the original telstra promise to put fibre in was in the
1990s. Many wanted to hear someone say that the network would in fact
reach all residences at some point, and the rollout would continue
beyond the first 3000 premises.

These people did not need convincing the NBN would bring better services.

I'm sure some of the tech talk flustered some people. The presenters
obviously tried hard to avoid it, but some questioners were propeller
heads and wanted to talk in acronyms. One guy was a cable contractor
seeking answers to the details of pipes, pits and cable connectors.
Credit to the organisers though, they were prepared to stay till
midnight answering people's questions.

ABC Canberra had a piece on the news last night:

The Cisco rep, Peter, was there in his capacity as president of the
community council. He lead the questioning of NBN Co folks on behalf
of all there. They're a lucky community to have him pushing it. In my
experience, that's the key - having a propellerhead act as technology
interpreter for the community, and organising the local groups,
keeping everyone informed.
