Link, could journalists, and knowledgeable folk re this topic, help
in formulating a quality response to the following genuine request?
What IS a likely career prospect for journalists? (Besides a DipEd)
 

Hi, I read your info about The Conversation with interest. It has led
to me emailing you with a question on a different tangent though ..
 
I have a 23 yr old in her 2nd year of Journalism at (University) - now 
thinking she doesn't want to be a journalist any more because she thinks 
the jobs are non-existent, other than a select few which means writing 
for The Herald Sun - a fate she deems worse than death.
 
Any inspirational thoughts? What is the actual reality for journalism 
students finishing their course in 2012? It's a bit like books - we know 
there's less and the focus has changed but don't really know the 
specifics. I'd be grateful for your thoughts if you have time. thx
