I drive an LPG vehicle, so I am not against the fuel, but it is worth
noting that LPG is a by-product of conventional oil (condensates and
gas at the well head or a product of catalytic cracking) and is
different from natural gas, which Australia currently produces in
abundance.
While LPG is a cleaner fuel, and produces about a fifth less CO2, a
move to LPG does little to decrease our reliance on oil.
LPG (propane) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Liquefied_petroleum_gas
LNG (methane) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Liquefied_natural_gas
