I like quoting HL Mencken: "There is always a well-known solution to
every human problem - neat, plausible, and wrong."

Censorship is just such a solution. It is invariably proposed by people
who have not thought through what the solution really means. It is the
equivalent of flinging a sheet over unsightly rubbish instead of
disposing if it; it sort of works, but it won't be long before the
serious flaws in the plan become apparent, especially if the rubbish
keeps coming.

"Protect the children at all costs!"

"OK - ban the motor car. Cover and fence all open water."

"Well, that's going too far, obviously!"

"Motor cars kill and maim hundreds of children every year. Dozens more
drown in open water. But no sacrifice is too great to protect the
children! Surely you are in favour of these simple measures?"

"Um..."

"Good, now we can talk."

Regards, K.
