It is very easy to strip EXIF data, you can just use "Save for web" in
Photoshop (or Gimp, for that matter). But, it'd be a hell of a lot
harder to sell a secondhand camera if you had to tell the buyer that
they would have to 'wash' their files before posting them on Flickr or
whatever.

Privacy implications? Well, Google and Facebook can recognise faces,
tell which individual camera took a photo, when it was taken, and in
many cases the exact location. How do you avoid being tracked? Stay at
home. Maybe burkas aren't such a bad idea after all...
