But if you storm a compound and there is a firefight, you shoot back. 
They are being cagey about this with regard to ObL, though, saying he 
used his wife as a shield. It's hard to determine if ObL was actually 
shooting at the SEALS or resisting otherwise.

Personally, I'm glad he's dead and felt a huge weight off when I 
heard the news yesterday, for a number of reasons. This is one of 
those moments in history where one's heritage does come into play 
very deeply. In this case, it matters if you are an American or not. 
I'm sure the British weren't exactly sad when Hitler was found dead, either.

This is interesting, though, from a story in the US:
U.S. forces searched the compound and flew away with documents, hard 
drives and DVDs that could provide valuable intelligence about 
al-Qaida, a U.S. official said. The entire operation took about 40 
minutes, officials said.

That story also discusses how they found him, via phone taps. Through 
persistence and luck, they found the courier they had been looking for.
