I think I know a couple of kids with Spray cans who can make prettier
Graffiti - cheaper.
They are currently employed by NSW Rail to randomly create work for
Wall, Block and Train paint removal crews.

43 Billion ? No Problem...
Ugly overhead wires ?
I wanna refund!!!

Dammit, I ditchwitched a quarter of the USA [1] for fibre in the
nineties in a matter of weeks.... I refuse to believe that Armidale
can't be ditchwitched.

What about RTA easements, NSW Rail Easements, Hell, what about the
waterways ?

Looking at a map of Armidale, [2] it appears that I can get Fibre to
within 400 metres of every property by using the following:

There's a lovely Green belt running right through the middle of town
with Dumaresq Creek running through it.
There's a great Railway Easement passing the University and heading
South to Sydney.
There's the New England Highway going across a quarter of the Township.
Most of the footpaths are not paved... Providing almost no resistance to
the ditch witch.

And the real ace in the hole ?

This week we have learned that Kleenheat have decided to abandon all
mains supply of gas to Armidale. Existing customers have been advised
that the shut off will be as soon as late April 2011.

Obviously the NBN doesn't have any on the ground intel capable person...

Otherwise they would just buy the Gas pipes from Kleenheat and run fibre
through them... (Duh!!!)
(Although a quick call to [4] resulted in the intel that Kleenheat have
extended the Gas supply until July or August.) Still, a four month wait
versus ugly overhead fibre...)

Overhead Cabling - No Excuse.
Sheer laziness.
And don't even try the "Couldn't get quotes within the right price
range".
Won't wash.

Hell, I would ditch witch the entire town with two teams (six guys) in
about a week (street crossings extra time required for traffic flow.

This is the great vision for Australia huh ?

Politicians please take note, he said "You do it once, you do it right,
you do it with Fibre..."

Overhead is NOT doing it right.
I feel sorry for the poor people of Armidale. Short end of the stick, so
some Labor politicians think
they will get re-elected because they got a few people connected.

Brrzzzt, Sorry, that was a Wrong Answer! NEXT Contestant please.

WE are not impressed.

[1] Okay, large swathes of WA OR and NV (1800 miles) mainly along the
railway easements, but some waterways and some highways. (Plus in the US
we _Could_ use the Stormwater drains (they are bigger than here -
because of the Snowmelt....)
