Well, with the advent of IPv6 and the restoration of end-to-end
transparency in the global Internet, how about SIP?

Skype's only real claim to fame was the mechanism they used to punch
through NAT; the rest of it is relatively straightforward (though of
course they patented a few codecs just to be annoying).
