You mean to attach labels to everything?. That might be interesting.
Workers at nucle plants also wear radiation reading tags (changes
colour) on their uniforms while on regular duty. Although I´m not sure
if those are sensitive to all forms of radiation (X-rays, and nuclear
elements like iodine-131 or plutonium)
The problem is that radiation moves with the dust.. that´s where
handheld Geiger counters become handy, as you might point it towards
the soil, or different objects, and get a reading and know whether
it´s safe to pick up, or walk on it.

PS: While the Fukushima incident was unfolding and there were talks
about concerns in the US west coast... I went and looked at Geiger
counters at Amazon.com... most items listed were already unavailable,
with the expeptions of a few listed at about $900 to $1000+ USD
