There was an interesting article on the Invisible Gorilla blog about
(human) dual information pathway processing where one channel - which
happens to be the real world - gets lost. This included an example of an
augmented reality "enhancement' for pilots that produced a bright line
along runway edges. When tested in a flight simulator, pilots watched the
virtual runway edges and attempted to land "through" planes sitting on the
runway. We are amused by GPS-assisted blindness reports but these highly
experienced pilots were prone to the same failure.
