Not entirely irrelevant.
We now have NBN going past our house but haven't yet connected as to get a
phone service we'd have to fork out over $200 for a voip basestation and
handset. The NBN does come with an analogue phone port but it seems that is
not supported by the ISPs with the better internet offerings.
I think it's probably still worth while, but not enough to rush into yet.
