Jim, Tom is indulging in a mundane denialist tactic known as
cherry-picking. The denialist chooses a fragment of data that can be
interpreted to support his agenda, ignoring all contrary data.

In his post, Tom asserts that "climatologists are ignoring" his pet
fragment of data. He presents no evidence of that, because he has none.
Anyone with the slightest knowledge of science (and a fully-functioning
brain) will realise that a qualified professional will have taken that
data into account, and a great deal more besides.

To keep this on-topic, I've just been reminded that teachers have been
threatened and abused for scaring students with accounts of the risks of
global warming. It seems some parents believe that ignorance is bliss. I
reckon it can be fatal.
