Given the state of roads in my area, I don't like their chances of 
maintaining anything more complex.

A comment raises the issue of differing development rates of ICT and 
motor vehicles. I guess they could just add hardware & software upgrades 
to the maintenance schedule. Come to think of it, they could do that 
with the vehicle itself. Hmm ... never again to need to buy a new 
vehicle. Pros & cons.
