Agreed. Whilst avoiding entering the link discussions regarding climate
discussion (being clueless re this branch of science) I would certainly
agree regards the current existence and rise of anti-science scepticism.
I believe this could well be due to a world growth in anti-authoriatian
outlook. It's trendy to be anti-authority. Anti-authoritarian, in terms
of science and scientists in general certainly but also politics, legal
mechanisms, education, medicine etc, etc. And as such, this can be good
and bad. Many might say it's good in terms of say, Middle East politics
and non-transparent governmental structures generally, but bad in terms
of social stability, and general scientific understanding, particularly
in this case as it relates to the environment.
Overall, and, trusting in human nature, and an eventual group-wisdom of
the world's masses, I'd say it's a good thing. Eventually. But problems
arise when powerful and monied vested interests intervene as apparently
in terms of climate change sciences. I think that a belief and trust in
authority pendulum will swing back, when the social effects are noticed
as being personally negative by many people. In terms of climate, let's
hope it's sooner rather than later, and even maybe, too late.
Cheers,
Stephen
