I need a discreet model that fits under a hat.  Can we can anticipate
beanies being banned at university exams?


More seriously, what are the downsides?  If the brain is likely to be
optimised for average (albeit Pleisocene) conditions we would expect that
if a simple level of stimulation improved brain function without a fitness
cost it would have evolved.

Drug therapies have side effects, eg, caffeine burnout.  If you have a real
problem the side effects may be worth it, but you're unlikely to get
something for nothing.

It's quite likely that cognitive enhancement drugs or devices might have
some negative effect like overworked neurons gradually carking it as their
nutrient levels deplete.  Some research has found Alzheimer sufferers were
a little smarter than average when younger.
