Of course, vested interests will scream bloody murder:

I've been reading up on massacres of Aboriginal Australians. Reactions
of the times are eerily similar to those of media moguls today, to any
hint of effective regulation. Perpetrators of massacres saw their
behaviour as their right, in the interests of business.
Following successful prosecutions, massacres continued under a deeper
code of silence and secrecy. If something more effective than the sick
joke that is the Australian Press Council comes to pass, will vested
interests in the media come up with ways to continue manipulating public
perceptions?
