But as others have pointed out, battery backup will be required if a power outage is not to take out telecommunications with it, and the cabinets will need to be ventilated.  So what happens when floods occur?  Will the kerbside nodes be somehow made impervious to water immersion, or will they all have to be replaced in an area affected by flooding?

Flooding on the Queensland-Flood scale is likely to become more common with global warming.
