"Broadband performance monitoring and reporting program"

On 14 August 2013 the ACCC released a consultation paper inviting comment
on a potential program for monitoring and reporting broadband performance
in Australia.

The proposed program would test data transfer rates (or 'speeds') and other
indicators of broadband service quality experienced by a representative
sample of consumers in real world conditions.

The results of the testing would be made periodically available to
consumers and service providers.

The ACCC considers that the proposed program would provide significant
benefits for both providers and consumers of broadband services in
Australia.

Information on the real-world performance of broadband services would
enable consumers to choose the right service for their needs.

It would also allow service providers to compare their services against
competitors and market their products in a way which reflects investments
in infrastructure and capacity.

Written submissions to the consultation paper should be provided no later
than 5.00pm on 13 September 2013.

The consultation paper on the proposed program can be found below.
