And there I was in a bubble thinking that ownership was a trap, and that by having very little, my quality of life was dramatically higher...

Eudaimonia, in whatever form that it takes, doesn't necessarily correlate with the comfort of expanding ownership of material objects. I blame the economists for corrupting Aristotelian values.
