Hey John
I guess the downside to that is google-central having access the 
server smarts to do all that plus whatever else they would choose to 
do with your feeds. But I get your point.

I use Calibre for newsfeeds.

This issue of 'old ways' to do things is similar to an on-going 
discussion about usenet and newsgroups. I'm in a club that has 
members that swear by them and hate web forums, even though new 
members wouldn't have a clue what they are. Chat and IM is the same. 
IRC is still kicking despite the event of Twitter and other 
real-time-ish chatting tools.
