I have trouble remembering what I learnt when, but I think learnt in high school (I got first class honours in maths 1 in the NSW leaving certificate)
Differential calculus
Trigonometry
Series expansions
Euclidean and Cartesian Geometry
and a heap of algebra
At university I picked up
Matrix algebra
Vector algebra
Differential equations
Partial differential equations
Finite geometry
Boolean logic
Number theory
Mathematical statistis
Operational research
and a heap of other stuff I've forgotten
For a while I had thought I'd be a mathematician but the really, really bright students chose maths for their honours year (one has a branch of maths named after him - Segal algebras) so I did physics instead. So did Bruce McKellar who is Professor Emeritus in theoretical physics an Melbourne University last I checked. I ended up a pretty good librarian but crikey the maths I knew always helped in my understanding of complex situations.
OK Question What maths did you all do at school? Did it help? Is maths logic writ large?
Tony
