Absolutely hilarious article. It has nothing to do with dual monitors, but rather 'focus', which appears to be a lost art. 

Even before computers, people worked with numerous open documents and other artefacts to get their work done. Some had big desks, some had tiny tables. 

It's all a matter of personal style - and the ability to focus. 

What's more, the quoted article appears to be written in the late 90s, by the sound of it. Around the time that anything larger than a 15" screen was unusual. And dual monitors an exotic affliction. 

Now we gave multiple monitors, millions of pixels, 30" screens (which on their own offer more screen real estate than the dual screens that the article seems to be referring to). 

I suspect the article has come about because people are being forced to embrace single monitors now that computing devices are now predominantly handheld.
