One imagines this may become popular ..

"North Melbourne man Andrew Fiori-Dea has launched http://www.MedicalCertificate.me which is an online service aimed at making it more convenient to get a medical certificate, carer’s certificate or specialist referral from a GP.

Mr Fiori-Dea said at some point everyone needed to obtain a doctor’s certificate or referral.

“What we’re trying to do is make it a very simple exercise to get one of those certificates,” he said.

“If we can charge $29 and save you the time and trouble of going to the doctor, you’re probably better off.”

Patients make an appointment, fill in a form and a GP would then contact them via Skype.

“We’re not trying to replace the need to visit a family doctor or a local GP but we’re trying to streamline those times where seeing a GP is not required,” Mr Fiori-Dea said.

The service, which has been operating for a month and used more than 20 times, was not intended to encourage absenteeism, he said, and relied on patients being honest about their symptoms.

Dr Patrick O’Sullivan, who is consulting online through the service as well as at his Fitzroy North general practice, said the internet was increasingly being used to provide health services.

Dr O’Sullivan said that when patients visited a doctor, the practitioner had to trust the patient was being truthful about not feeling well.

The same principle would apply online.
