FORD Ideation Challenge:: "Create Accessories to Enhance the Driving Experience"

AWARD: $15,000 USD | DEADLINE: 6/14/15 | ACTIVE SOLVERS: 578 | POSTED: 5/01/15

Vehicles traveling in remote regions or through rugged terrain have unique durability requirements and often experience delays in obtaining replacement parts.

Sparse population densities require self-sufficiency in instances of mechanical or electrical failure, hazardous weather, and other situations.

Ford is searching for novel designs of accessories and the underlying process of coming up with solutions when driving in remote areas.

To make the challenge realistic we are setting the challenge in Australia.

This is an Ideation Challenge with a guaranteed award for at least one submitted solution.

Challenge Overview

Drivers traveling in remote areas or over rugged terrain must be prepared for unexpected situations and difficult conditions that may adversely impact their travel. Having limited access to help and resources is just one of the challenges that drivers face during their journey.

The purpose of this challenge is to invite innovators and the ‘maker’ community to create novel accessories to assist drivers in remote areas. For example, by enabling vehicle diagnostic information and back up home accessories to facilitate vehicle repair as well as making the vehicle more reliable overall. To make the challenge realistic, we are setting the challenge in Australia – the country with the 3rd lowest population density in the world.

This is an Ideation Challenge, which has the following unique features:

There is a guaranteed award. The awards will be paid to the best submission(s) as solely determined by the Seeker. The total payout will be $15,000 USD, with at least one award being no smaller than $10,000 USD and no award being smaller than $2,500 USD.

Submission forwarding occurs during the Challenge. Since submissions will be forwarded to the Seeker throughout the Challenge, please make sure you upload only a finished proposal. You can submit an updated version of your proposal only as a new submission. If you submit an updated version of your proposal, please clearly indicate the new items and/or edits compared to your previous submission. This will allow the Seeker to quickly find the new information and determine how it improves your submission.

The Solvers are not required to transfer exclusive intellectual property rights to the Seeker. Rather, by submitting a proposal, the Solver grants to the Seeker a royalty-free, perpetual, and non-exclusive license to use any information included in this proposal, including for promotional purposes.

Submissions to this Challenge must be received by 11:59 PM (US Eastern Time) on June 14, 2015. Late submissions will not be considered.

After the Challenge deadline, the Seeker will complete the review process and make a decision with regards to the Winning Solution(s). All Solvers that submit a proposal will be notified on the status of their submissions; however, no detailed evaluation of individual submissions will be provided.
