Yes, try turning off styles with a page from a social media website and 
see all the extra stuff downloaded just in case you might want to look 
at it (in Firefox select: View > Page Style > No Style).

More worryingly this is also happening on what look more plain vanilla 
web pages which you might need to access for more important services 
(such getting an education).

It would be possible to design these applications so they don't download 
all this extra stuff, if the customer said they did not want it, or were 
on a slow link, but how do you get the average service provider to 
provide this? Or is this something you need an add-on to your browser to 
provide?
