I think Abbott was fond of referring to "the elites" but it probably goes back further.  Some may remember "the Balmain basket weavers" being used for the same effect, a more colourful perjorative invented by Paul Keating according to the Macquarie Dictionary - https://www.macquariedictionary.com.au/resources/aus/word/map/search/word/Balmain%20Basket%20Weavers/Sydney%20Region/

However I don't think there are many basket weavers left in Balmain, the place is slowly being taken over by merchant bankers.
