There is another relevant parameter when it comes to infrastructure: power.

The useful value of which is "as low as possible"

FTTP is zero power between hub (exchange) and user's premises. Anything 
other than fibre is a waste of power and resources because it needs 
electronics, a power source and maintenance.

 From a sustainability perspective, fibre is the only defensible 
solution. IMHO.
