Thanks David, you are certainly not the last to know.

In my area (Northern Beaches, Sydney) it says: "The NBN will be coming 
to this location. However, the rollout schedule for this area has not 
(yet) been announced"

Which means it's not due in the next three years.

So I'll just have to put up with the ADSL1 I currently have. Download 
speed 1Mbit/Sec, upload 0.1MBit/Sec

If I use my Optus phone I get 21Mbit/Sec, upload 2.2MBit/Sec

There's something wrong with this picture.

If it wasn't for  the fact that I get 300Mbyte per month with ADSL vs 
3Mbyte on the phone, I'd scrap the wired connection.
