If I'm reading this right, then Queenstown will be relying solely on
satellite NBN. Evidently, it isn't alone. Speechless, I am.

> QUEENSTOWN NBN REVELATION AN ‘EMBARASSING BLOW’ FOR WHITELEY
>
> Labor Senator Anne Urquhart has said revelations from yesterday
> afternoon’s Senate Hearing that Queenstown is the largest town in the
> nation to get the slowest NBN technology is an ‘embarrassing blow’ for
> Braddon MHR Brett Whiteley.
>
> The admission that Queenstown will be the largest Australian town to
> be connected to the satellite network came from NBN CEO Bill Morrow
> under gruelling session of questioning from Senator Urquhart in a
> Senate hearing yesterday.
>
> “We know now beyond the shadow of a doubt that Queenstown will be
> worse off than any other town its size when it comes to the NBN,”
> Senator Urquhart said.
>
> “Senator Urquhart said satellite was designed for small rural and
> remote hamlets, not regional hubs like Queenstown, Rosebery and Zeehan.”
>
> “It’s nothing short of economic vandalism to let a $372 million
> economy flounder with the slowest internet technology.”
>
> Labor Candidate for Braddon Justine Keay said the revelation from Mr
> Morrow that the “Government has not asked NBN Co to consider any other
> options” was an appalling indictment on Brett Whiteley’s performance
> as Federal representative for the West Coast.
>
> “Mr Whiteley hasn’t even bothered to fight for this community. Instead
> he just sat back and watched while Mr Turnbull hung the community out
> to dry."
>
> “How can the West Coast compete for business and investment
> opportunities without first-class broadband and more importantly how
> can Mr Whiteley just stand idly by and let this happen?”
>
> “I can assure the West Coast community I am strongly lobbying my
> federal colleagues to ensure the West Coast receives a better deal
> under Labor.”
>
> Senator Urquhart said the revelation vindicated her long-standing
> belief that the West Coast satellite decision is “more about paying
> for Malcolm Turnbull’s NBN budget blowout than doing the right thing
> for the West Coast.”
>
> “The West Coast was slated for a fibre-based solution right up until
> July last year. Soon after, we found out that Mr Turnbull’s NBN budget
> had ballooned from $29.5 billion to $56 billion,” Senator Urquhart said.
>
> “It’s clear the people of the West Coast have been dudded to pay for
> Mr Turnbull’s own mismanagement and his NBN budget blowout.”
