One of the weirder events I have been to recently was a free "Future
Earth Australia" workshop, in a building shaped like a 1960s flying
saucer (the headquarters of the National Academy of Sciences). After a
day of earnest, but pointless, discussion, we were shepherded across the
road to a very trendy bar district to watch performance artists shovel
snow, dance in the middle of the street and recite quotes about climate
