That explains it: last week I put my hand on a glass in a dishwasher, 
there was a "bang" and I found myself holding razor sharp shards of 
glass. Fortunately I was not cut.

A quick web search shows it is not uncommon for tempered glass to 
shatter in this way:

Perhaps someone hacked in and programming the dishwasher for multiple 
rapid hot and cold cycles, to weaponize the crockery. ;-)
