Thanks Paul, that's interesting and confirms my understanding.

The site https://www.thenumberingsystem.com.au/#/number-register/search still shows my number as both allocated to, and held, by Telstra, which presumably means it hasn't been ported at all.

However G520 sc. 4.1.1 allows the carriage-service provider responsible for a call to

route the call to another SD [service deliverer] which it has contracted to perform its routing responsibilities.  This “contracted” SD may be the SD holding the block number allocation for the number called.  The “contracted” SD also will also perform a transit function as calls are switched into and out of its network.

This sounds exactly like what's happening.

I thought number portability was supposed to be free, but I can remember my ISP briefly mentioning a fee of $10 per month to keep my old POTS number.  So I'll bet Telstra is on to a nice little earner whereby it continues to hold POTS numbers and quietly charges a monthly fee to reroute calls to other NBN service providers.
