Video conference systems tend to prioritize audio over video, so it is
not as bad as that. Also I have found that if I reduce the UDP bandwidth
on my modem, this reduces the data Zoom uses.

IT equipment uses almost as much energy idle as when running flat out,
so turning off the camera is not going to make a significant difference.
The way we could reduce energy use is to have off peak discounts for
using data, so less equipment is required.
ps: It might be worth giving the kids limited bandwidth during school
hours, so they would have enough for schoolwork, but not for online game
playing or representational videos. ;-)
pps: I found this reply sitting in my out box unsent, since from February.
