A great answer, Karl .. calm and logical .. in a day of high stress.
Many, many thanks

Well yes, it looks highly likely to be the case. As yet, I cannot say if they have
been removed to One Drive, because I don’t even want to create a One Drive
account so I can have a look to see if they are there. But if they have just been
made hidden, then they’ve surely been made very well hidden on this machine ☹

Yes, certainly agree. Yesterday midnight all was well. All present and correct.
This morning, after a slower boot-up than normal, they’re gone. And still are.

Well, lately no backup. For years we had automatic backup. But say 6 months
ago our drive unit started going belly-up and we un-plugged it prior to replacing
it. However yes, as you’re now thinking, it’s something we did not get around to.

Good point, thanks Karl. And doing so reveals our relevant drive memory
has gone UP? Now there is only 10 Gb on the main drive? Odd? But, then
that makes me hopeful they may be just hidden and maybe all still there?

However, there is now a new User Group, all with full permissions? And
Windows won’t let anyone see them. They are just 20+ character names.
We can’t open them, or even copy the new User Names and Permissions.
This new user group wasn’t there last night, I’m certain of that. Villainy !!

Haha, you’re a funny man😊 But mate, please don’t make us both laugh.
Some of the missing files are professionally made and irreplacable. They’re
professionally made and produced historic arial drone geographical records.
We can’t loose them! So, looks like our next step is to create a One Drive
Account, log into it, and see if they are there, I guess. Can’t think of what
else we can readily do? But, don’t want Microsoft believing they’ve won!
😊
Cheers, and thanks again Karl
