Consumers may hate the idea of AI customer service, but will they use it
anyway when it is disguised, or when it offers a cheap, less error
prone, readily available service?

As an example, how do you know a human, or AI, is processing a form you
submit online? How much longer will you be willing to wait to speak to a
human customer service representative? If the AI makes fewer errors, do
you really want a human?

Recently IEEE asked members if they would be willing to use a robot
staffed cafe. I pointed out we already have these at some service
stations, between Canberra and Sydney. You can have the machine make
your coffee, pick up some prepared food from the cabinet, then pay for
this, and your fuel, at a checkout machine. This doesn't look like a
robot, but is a number of machines which produce the same result.
