In an interview with The Canberra Times last week at the ANU College of 
Engineering, Computing & Cybernetics, I pointed out that space based 
telecommunications are vulnerable to solar storms, so facilities such as 
Telstra Tower remain useful.

As it happens, the Bureau of Meteorology's Australian Space Weather 
Forecasting Centre issued a severe space weather WATCH yesterday: "The 
effects are expected to be significant. Increased awareness of critical
