Federal regional climate centres across the US, which provide climate data to scientists, policymakers, and farmers, are temporarily offline due to a paperwork bottleneck at NOAA. The centres, managed by NOAA but housed at universities, rely on annual funding contracts that expired on 16 April. While the disruption is expected to be temporary, the White House’s budget request for 2026 proposes eliminating funding for these centres.
