Hello!

I’m a researcher at the University of Melbourne looking at the impact of
AI on democracy. We’re conducting a pilot survey to better understand
how Australians are interacting with social media algorithms and how
that might be related to their political decision-making. I’m reaching
out to ask for your help in sharing this survey with your members or
with community members that your organization might be in contact with.

This survey has been approved by the University of Melbourne Ethics
Committee. It is a two-step process in order to protect the identity of
any participants. Anyone who chooses to take the survey will first enter
their name and email address to be assigned a participant ID. They will
then be sent a link to the main survey, where they will enter their
participant ID in order to complete the survey. The data will not be
linked or stored together, so participants cannot be identified with
their answers. Please note that sometimes it takes up to 15 minutes for
the system to send the main survey link – this is because of the gap
between the two surveys and helps keep participant information safe.

This is a pilot study that we are asking community members to take in
order to help us refine our study before it goes out to a random sample
of Australians in order to have scientific validity. We are just looking
for as many people from as many backgrounds as possible to take this
survey so that we can be sure that our questions are well-honed when it
goes out later this year.

Any help in getting this survey to your communities would be very much
appreciated! If you know of someone who might be in a good position to
help share this survey, please feel free to forward this email or reply
to me, and I’ll get in touch with them.
