I do not remember seeing "kaikaiim" written, only "kaikaim", though 
"kaikaiim" is more like how it's pronounced.

Also, there is now an ongoing discussion on the etymology of kanaka 
on ASAONET (ASAONET at LISTSERV.UIC.EDU).  Mihalic says that it's from 
Fijian, but this is probably wrong.  It must be from Hawaiian by way 
of Pacific trade jargon.
