When using most email clients, the message header is repeated when you reply, for example:

From: Institute of Papua New Guinea Studies [mailto: xxxx @ yyyy.net.zz]
Sent: Monday, 4 August 2003 8:24 AM
To: Tok Pisin List
Subject: Re: [Mihalic] More etymology

You will all notice that email addresses are either removed or made readable only to humans in posted messages so that web crawler programs cannot harvest them automatically by looking at the Mihalic archive. However, it is still good form to delete any email addresses left in message bodies just in case.

If anyone can see a problem with leaving the archive unprotected by a password, let me know. I get 45 spams a day via ANU and don't want any more.
