I asked a friend in Brazil about the meaning of Portuguese "mas que" as a
possible source for TP maski. He replied:

>"Mas que" (a likely source for "maski") was a widely used idiomatic
>expression in Brazil but has become a rather old-fashioned and rare one in
>current use, at least in the surroundings I've been. When and where it
>occurs, its meaning is the same you have suggested below (foget it, never
>mind etc.). I would say--not being sure at all--it is still current in
>Portugal in that sense too.
