According to Sillitoe (1983:94-95) Psophocarpus tetragonolobus orignated in
tropical Asia prior to European contact. It has a bean pods growing on a
vine and an edible tuberous root; however, the root is not much eaten. See
also Powell (1976: 116-117), Twohig (1986: 73), May (1984: 50).
Correction:
This food is regularly eaten in the highlands, and is always found at the
local markets raw and cooked. In Mt. Hagen the tuber is very common, and I
have never been unable
to find it. (It happens to be a favorite of mine)
