Two species of daka that is chewed with betel nut in PNG.

Piper betle - grown in the lower altitudes.
Piper gibbilimbum - grown in the highlands.

P.betle is a major export from the Bush Mekeo area of Central Province
where the vine is planted in gardens and in special plots, on sturdy posts.
In 1995 a disease that caused the fruit to break open before it was mature
caused an economic disaster, but production seems to have recovered again.
The Mekeo word for daka is "awaka".

Piper aduncum seeds or fruit or whatever it is not consumed.
