Oops. A typo made my message below gibberish. Instead of "know", I wanted to
type "knot". So "ai bilong umben" is the centre of the KNOT of the net.

don't recall hearing this among the non-AN-speaking Kuots nextdoor to
the Nalik, but then I may not have hung around when they fish with nets.
Still, my impression is that 'ai' (or the Kuot equivalent) never means
anything to do with knowledge, just point, hole (/lid), etc.

In Nalik (New Ireland)there is a term that translates as "ai bilong umben". This
means the know of the net. I suspect most Austronesian-speaking people use this
in Tok Pisin. Any feedback on how far spread it is?
