Re galip, a number of inland New Guinea groups use a variant in their own
languages for the peanut, an C20th introduction, which my elderly Wahgi
informant suggested came up his valley in 1920s, perhaps a decade before
contact. I assume folks further east (i.e. Morobe) where TP was already in
use pinched 'galip' for this new nut.
For example:
Wahgi (WHP) - kelip
Nii (WHP) - keklip (not really /kl/ but I can't do the symbol here)
But also:
Biangai (Wau) - kelip (or v. similar - Mitio are u there?)
Any more like this?
