[Nauty-list] explanation of spaextend in geng

My partner and I are working to produce a parallel version of the geng
tool.  We are having some difficulty understanding how the function
spaextend works.  Any help would be much appreciated concerning the
definitions of the parameters, explanation of variables, and general flow of
the function.
