Hello dear colleagues

Some months ago I wrote to colleagues in CHL and some beyond flagging a Pacific Studies retreat at Kioloa this year following our successful retreat involving  staff and graduate students last year. The dates mooted for that were May 4-5. Alas that clashed with an Anthropology retreat and Kioloa booking on those dates. Given the density of other events this year it was decided at a meeting of the Pacific Institute Board that we would delay this until much later in the year and likely until early November by which time the weather (if not the ocean) will be warmer. I am sorry if there has been confusion about this and that the message did not get around all lists. Do let me know if this will present a problem. At a later stage I will ask you for suggestions about participants/format etc.

On another matter congratulations to our colleague Katerina Teaiwa who is the incoming president of AAAPS (Australian Association for the Advancement of Pacific Studies). She was elected at the SGM of AAAPS at UOW last week and will be working with a good board representing several states and a more youthful spirit! Chris Ballard remains our Public Officer (we are registered in ACT) and Anna-Karina Hermkens joins the board.
