Abstract
In this seminar, Seru Virokanu - formerly a political advisor during the Natapei Government - will discuss Vanuatu's recent election, the country's 10th since 1979. He will look at the political process in Vanuatu's elections: from elections through to government formation and election of the next Prime Minister. Mr Virokanu will also analyse the election results, focusing on significant trends, including voting patterns, and the likely fragmented Parliament comprising 52 Members from a large number of political parties/groupings. In this context he will also discuss the political outlook for Vanuatu over the next four years.



About the Speaker
Seru Virokanu was formerly a political aid and advisor to Nipake Edward Natapei for over 10 years. His most recent engagement was as Natapei's Private Secretary when he was Leader of Opposition in 2011. He was Deputy Private Secretary when Natapei was Prime Minister from 2008 to 2010, and was Private Secretary when Natapei was Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Infrastructure and Public Utilities from 2007 to 2008. Seru was part of Natapei's campaign management team from the 1998 to the 2008 general elections, and was involved in his campaign activities as early as 1995.  soon after he returned from studying science majoring in microbiology in Otago University from 1991 to 1994.
