The following event and message introducing the Pacific Index from Andrew Rowe, Managing Director of Sustineo Pty Ltd, may be of interest to the ANU Pacific Institute members:

The Pacific Index (PI) is multidimensional index that ranks the relative contribution of 22 donor countries assistance to Pacific countries. It ranks the donor countries on the basis of seven drivers of development: foreign aid, trade, migration, investment, security, the creation and dissemination of new technologies, and environmental sustainability. The Pacific Index quantifies and ranks donor country support for Pacific Island country development. It will provide the only rigorous research-based measure of effectiveness at the country program level.

The launch will be from 0830 to 1100 at Regatta Point, Commonwealth Park in Canberra on Tuesday 6 May 2014. The official release of the 2014 Pacific Index will be followed by a presentation of the research and an interpretation of the results by Professor Mark McGillivray (Chief Investigator), and a question and answer session.

Registration for the launch can be done here<https://www.eventbrite.com.au/e/pacific-index-launch-a-measure-of-rich-country-support-for-the-pacific-tickets-11275983771> – please pass the invitation to your colleagues.

Prof McGillivray and I believe that the Pacific Index will become an important part of the aid effectiveness and benchmarking dialogue for Pacific Island nations and donors. We are confident that the 2014 results will stimulate debate and provide a new perspective on aid performance and priorities.
