Hello - this may be of interest to Pacific Institute members. Please feel free to share it. Thank you!

Sarah.

An SSGM workshop titled 'ICTs in Melanesia: Building a Research Community' will be held next Monday and Tuesday in seminar room 3 at the Crawford School. It will be a small, relaxed and informal workshop. We are lucky to have Professors Bob Foster (Rochester) Heather Horst (RMIT), Gerard Goggin (Sydney), Deborah Lupton (Canberra) and Amanda Watson (visiting fellow, SSGM) presenting on Monday, on existing debates and relevant research methods across their disciplines, which range from anthropology to sociology and communications. ?Here is a link to Professor Goggin's latest publications titled, 'Must Read: Mobile Technology Research - a Field Guide': he's asked that it be distributed to attendees and it may be of interest to many of you.

Monday will also feature a presentation from ANU's Professor Rob Ackland, who is contributing to the next World Bank World Development Report on social media for development.

Tuesday will be devoted to discussing both existing and completed research projects. Heather Horst and Bob Foster will be presenting on their ARC project on the moral and cultural economy of mobile phones in the Pacific, while SSGM visiting fellow Amanda Watson will be presenting on some fascinating research she has conducted on the use of mobile phones for anti-corruption initiatives in PNG's Department of Finance. The latter part of the day will involve short presentations on emerging research projects from SSGM researchers.

W?e are in a small seminar room, but please feel free to come for various sessions throughout the day - we will find space! The program is attached and the eventbrite page is here:
